How to apply a category to a node

hi,
when a workflow ends, i want to create a node and apply a specified category to it.
Values for the atributes in that category will come from the web form attached to the workflow.

So, in a generalcallback method, i am trying to create a node using DAPI NodeAlloc and NodeCreate functions. but how do i apply the category to this node and put the values from the form into the attributes?
