If I get a digital card from the refurb market, what steps are needed to install it and make it active? Analog also?
I have slots open on an option 11c and TNs available. I believe there are Bix blocks already punched also...38,39,40 with nothing punched.

just add the cards into the spare slots and you must build a TN on them... this will enable the cards...

Great,
Is there a way to tell if there's a card in the system already that's not activated? I'm new to the system and it seems that 3 blocks were added recently (away from the others) but nothing is punched on them. They're labeled 38, 39, 40 and tracing the cable back to the system is difficult. How would I find out what 38 means in the system?

I think you can use the IDC command on the slot for the card. If you go into LD 32, type IDC 38, then enter. If there is a card in the slot, it should come back with an NT8D02AA .............., or something that looks very similar. An NT8D02 is a digital line card. I am not sure if the system will respond if the card has no TN's built, but it would be easy to build a simple 2008 on 38 0 and then see what your results are.

If the blocks are labeled as they should be, 38 would mean loop/slot 38 in the PBX. This would result in 38, 39, & 40 being the last three usable slots in the 4th cabinet of your PBX.

Good Luck,

Scott

you can't idc a card that doesn't have a set on it. you can do a ld 11 new cardmlt.. but as above build (not copy) a set to any port, then idc the card, if ther is a card it will idc...the command is idc 20 0 4 or in an 11 idc 4 from load 32...on the trial set you can take all the defaults and you don't even need to build a key...

On an Opt11 you can just do the following

REQ = LUU
Type = 500 / 3904 etc

you will not see a card that is plugged in with no phones on it, and req=type type=2000 will give you a cleaner list. the same is ava for analog just use type=500... you can't find a card that has no programed sets fromthe software.. list unused voice units will tell you if you have vacant ports on cards without a red light... you can also do a stat against the cards to see the any sets that are built and not plugged in... another test is load 117 inv generate sets... that will tellyou when it's done.. then inv prt sets, will give you a list of all sets that are plugged in along with the type, and the color and serial number.. in load 117, you can use a ? or inv ?... for a list of commands.

Thanks to everyone, I programmed a set on 38,0 and it worked, then showed me the rest in LUVU. That means I have another digital in 39 and an analog in 40.

I'm still confused as to the labeling. My Bix blocks are labeled 3 thru 11, 12 thru 20 and 31 thru 40. How do I match that up to the slots in the 3 cabinets ?

Here is how the Cabinets number up:

1st Cabinet = slots/loops 1-10
2nd Cabinet = slots/loops 11-20
3rd cabinet = slots/loops 21-30
4th cabinet = slots/loops 31-40
5th cabinet = slots/loops 41-50

Now you mentioned you have 3 cabinets, but the loops are defined as 38, 39, & 40. This would indicate to me, without seeing anything, you have two possibilities. One, there is a 4th cabinet somewhere you have not found; two, the tech who installed you system only purchased one fiber expansion card and added expansion cabinets 2 & 4 on the system. This would give you slots/loops 31-40, but 21-30 would not be active. The fact you are missing BIX blocks for 21 - 30 would also support this.

Long story short, those slots/loops are in YOUR 3rd cabinet, last three slots.

chances are cards 1 and 2 are ti's, so in cab 1 your using cards 3 to 10.. the 1st usable card in the second cab is slot 11... but if your install skipped slots for some reason, then he did the lable right... your slot 38 is the 8th SLOT in the third cab... You might fool yourself with luvu... do a idc 38, from 32.. your not looking at layer 2 with the luvu command, the idc command to see the layer 2 address...

If you have a DLC in your system with nothing programmed for it you will see it is still disabled with the red LED light on it, then just build a set and it will work.
