It is possible to add Google.co.uk to your IE7 Search Box. Follow the steps outlined below. Note that this involves editting a non-essential registry key, but should you feel uncomfortable editing the registry, make a backup first by choosing File -> Export from within the Registry Editor.

Step 1

Install the Google.com Search Provider for IE7 here:

Then, close IE7.

Step 2

Open the Registry Editor by going to Start -> Run... and typing "regedit" (no quotes) and pressing Enter.

Use the left hand pane to navigate to the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search Scopes

Within this key will be one or more keys that contain information about your installed Search Providers. Click on each one to find the one that belongs to Google.com (the URL value in this key will start with "

Step 3

In this key, change the "DisplayName" value to "Google (UK)" (or whatever you wish).

Then, change the "URL" value to the following:

Step 4

Repeat steps 2 and 3 with the following Registry Key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search Scopes

Step 5

Restart IE7. Click the little arrow next to the Search button in the top-right hand of the window. Click "Change Search Defaults...". Select your new "Google (UK)" entry, or whatever you called it, and click "Set Default".

You can also remove any providers you don't want anymore here too (like the default Windows Live Search) by selecting them and pressing "Remove".

And you're done!

As far as I know, that adds Google.com, not Google.co.uk.

Unless it's changed recently...

make sure that you select the "select pages from the UK" BEFORE you hit the enter key.

then paste the entire resulting link into the url window & VIOLA!

What do you mean? Where's "select pages from the UK"?

first step - Go to
second step - type in TEST in the search window

third step - immediately under the search window where you typed TEST is where you will find the choice to select search the web or just UK pages select the UK option - hit enter

fourth step - copy the entire resulting url for the results

return to the add search window page - paste the search results into the url box and name it Google UK and hit enter

Oh I see, using that website. Well, this used to have to be done during Beta 3 and RC1, and it still works so...whatever.
