On Solaris8 & veritas I have a (ufs)f/s called /u01/mgmt/data that uses 48GB on disk2 but f/s is 80% full and disk has no spare capacity. I have a new empty 72Gb disk3 and would like to add another 48Gb for my f/s to make 96Gb in total over the two disks. Best way to do this?

What have you tried so far, and how much detail do you need?

The basic steps are to 1) initialise the disk for use by VxVM (man vxdisksetup), 2) add the disk to the disk group man vxdisk), 3) extend the volume on to the new disk, and 4) increase the size of the filesystem to the new volume size (man vxresize for steps 3 and 4).

Thanks Annihilannic, as yet haven't done anything. You're comments show what I thought, that i need some veritas advice.

When you've had a look at the man pages I mentioned, feel free to quote the commands you think you'll need and we can check them over...

This is a very rough guess Annihilannic and loads missing I'm sure, thanks in advance for checking

vxdisksetup -i c2t9d0 # new 72Gb disk
vxdisk -g dmdg # does this cmd add c2t9d0 to dmdg
vxresize -g dmdg
vxresize -g dmdg volume_new_length 96Gb #

As I said I need to add another 48Gb to original 48Gb file system /u01/mgmt/data , not sure of the syntax

# vxdisk list # as it stands
