I have 30 folders, each with 100 images in them of jewellery. My client wants a black backgroudn added to them all.

I don't want to have to do this manually of course, is there some way I can get photshop to add the background and save them as jpegs for me?

This sounds impossible... (save them as jpegs)?

What is the current background?

Is the jewelry on it's own layer, separate from the background? Does it have any clipping paths? The only automatic way to do this (if none of the above is true) is to hire a Photoshop artist or get the photographer to reshoot.

Why was jewelry shot on anything but a black BG? One needs to be careful of reflections and refractions in jewelry. The photographer should acknowledge the background and lighting as much as the subject.

already cut out
on own layer
clear background

All I need to do is

(1) add background layer with black colour
(2)export as jpeg

You've lucked out...

Just set up an action to create a new layer, move to the bottom of your layer palette, fill with black, and save as jpeg.

Are you working with a recent version of Photoshop that has an Action palette?

Photoshop 6, it seems to have an actions palette.
