We aquired another server from an office we closed. It was the only server and its domain was abc
I turned it on and it can get on the internet but I can't see it from my desktop by typing \\servername in the Run command.
Whats the quickest way to get to it. I can't remove its hard drive(s) 'cause it's 2 drives mirrored in a SATA raid controller.

Not sure what you are trying to do, but can you access it by \\ip.address. My guess is that the server's name is not registered in your domain's DNS.

What do you plan on doing with the server? Do you want to remove AD from it and then join your domain?

I would prefer to keep it as intact as possible.
For now we just need to get to data files on its "D" drive.
In the near future; we are also moving to new facility and I want to have it and ours in one domain.
So if it joins our SBS domain now, OK.

So you want to connect to it from your desktop to copy the data files? Did connecting to it via ip address instead of server name work?

You would obviously need to remove any existing Active Directory configuration on the server before you could add it to your SBS domain, but as suggested above use the IP address to connect to the server unless you want to add it into DNS

pgaliardo, How do I find its IP, it's set to get IP from DHCP which used to be its router I guess? It does not have a Static IP. We were also able to remote in to it from the outside.

Command prompt, ipconfig/all

or, go into the settings for the NIC and assign it an IP addy.

I'm Certifiable, not cert-ified.
It just means my answers are from experience, not a book.

How do you remote into it?

If it doesn't leak oil it must be empty!!

Dooh I knew that, but I don't use it enough, too much to remember.

pgaliardo, have a star
I got its IP
then I had to use its domain name domain\Administrator to log in
it would not take just Administrator
I noticed it when I typed in just Admin... and it came back with ourdomain\Administrator, can't login message

Thanks all
