How to add a portlet to an existing portal.

Hello. I have an existing portal. I have created a new portlet directory and imported some existing jsp into this directory, and created a new .portlet file that corresponds to the root jsp I have imported. I am currently trying to get this portlet integrated into the portal.

I've added a page under the Main Page Book for the portal, and created a placeholder under this which holds my new portlet. Everything seems to be connected okay, but when I build the portal and start it, the portlet doesn't display.

Any ideas why this is occurring?
