How to access the tape drive on Suse Linux7.3.Need urgent help.

Hi,

I am able to back up the database on my tape drive, but do not know how to access the tape to list its contents the same way I do for floppy disk and cd-rom. In addition, I also want to create a shortcut for the tape drive on the desktop. Please anyone direct me how to do it.
