I've installed VMware server on a host running XP Pro and need to use Windows 2000 server as the guest. This works fine, but I want to access files on my host C drive.

There is a way of mapping a drive by editing the VM properties, but when I start the wizard all the information seems to point at using this as a dual boot method, with dire warnings about failure to boot and loss of data.

So, now I'm not so sure, is this the correct way to access files on the host OS, or should I be doing this another way?

I did think about using USB, but my guest OS dosent see the USB 2.0 stick, so I'm currently upgrading the Win2k server as I think that may be a guest OS issue. #

I've had a read through many threads on this forum and dont see any queries about this. Surely I cannot be the only one wjo wants to do this, perhaps I should just try it and see what happens?

Umm how about via a network share instead?

SimonD.

The real world is not about exam scores, it's about ability.

Hi Simon, oh yes, networking, never though of that one!! I was thinking I'd have some form of local access, and did find an option in VMWare tools to permit sharing, so am looking at that as well.

However after thinking about your comment I used FTP.
