OS: Windows XP Professional SP2
Internet browser: IE 6.0
CD-ROM: MSI CD-RW MS-8340S(40x12x48x)
CPU: AMD Athlon XP 3000+
RAM: 1024MB dual channel DDR400
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-7N400 Pro2 Rev.1

I bought an enhanced CD and I can play the cda tracks but do not know how to access the data track. Windows does not see it, but CDex audio CD extractor program does. The CD insert says:
"This enhanced CD contains extra live tracks in MP3 format, and additional information about the band. From your web browser, choose 'Open File' and select index.htm."
I opened IE and selected 'Open' on the File menu, which brought up the 'Open' dialog. First I clicked 'Browse' and navigated to my CD-ROM drive but it showed no HTML files and when I selected 'All Files' in 'Files of type:' it showed only the cda tracks on the CD. Second I typed "index.htm" into the 'Open' input field and clicked 'OK' but it just produced a 'Cannot find server or DNS Error' page.

Thanks, but with respect, I think this is a hardware question, rather than a Windows XP issue.

This is a Windows XP issue, as it is Windows that is not showing the data files. So you will probobaly get more responses in that forum.

Also as a note, you can not listen to the music AND access the data at the same time on some systems.

I think this may be a codec issue.

One thing I would look at is this:

Is the format of the file system on the CD differrent?

If not it is just the data may be stored using a different codec.

This may be an issue requiring a new or different version of Firmware on the actual drive itself, or the drive may not be able to read it or it may not be a supported file type for the drive.

You may need a different program to play the enhanced portion and also a video device that supports that type of output like a HDTV Card with hardware encoding. You might be able to read it but you can not play it.

Please explain what exactly you mean by an enhanced CD???

Is this a video CD or a CD with audio tracks on it or actually a 2 layer blue laser DVD?

If you do not like my post feel free to point out your opinion or my errors.

enhanced cd generally refers to a "mixed mode cd". Meaning it has both data and audio tracks. My qualm is that, Windows XP natively supports mixed-mode CDs. And opening the CD drive via Windows Explorer should show the data files and not the audio files, not the other way around.

ceh4702 has an interesting idea regarding the firmware, and I'd be willing to at least check that idea out.

I agree with ceh4702, it may be a codec thing or something similar.
but, this is worth a shot at least. If you had already played music on the cd then tried accessing the data, then try shutting down IE and going back in, that could possibly work. Or even try from my computer, right click and open or open with.

Good advice + great people = tek-tips
