Hi everyone, i'm hoping that you will be able to help with this.

We have IIS 6.0 running on an XP machine which is connected to our LAN. It has been assigned its own IP address on the LAN.

There is another XP box on the LAN which has an ADSL modem connected via USB. This computer is the gateway for all computers to connect to the net through.

We have a CGI script on the Web which needs to access a .NET application on the machine with the IIS server.

How can I access that computer from the web?

:S

Is it using IP Routing on the ADSL modem or something entirely different?

Any help at all would be appreciated here, thanks everyone.

OK, can this be done via specific ports? If so then look at port forwarding on the ADSL router.

the port forwarding will have to be done on the gateway machine likely....

i assume your public ip is showing up on the gateway machine and youll need to find a way to map ports to ips...

i am thinking that a broadband router (linksys, dlink, netgear) would be much easier to configure for this application though...

Hi guys...i forgot to mention that the adsl connection has a static IP address.

So with port forwarding, any requests to that IP address on a particular port get forwarded on to the machine on the local network?

The static IP is assigned to the modem, not the gateway machine - so does that mean the modem has to forward the requests to the gateway machine, then on to the machine running the IIS web server?

can you log into your modem?
if the ip is on the modem then it mustbe in router mode.. and should have a web interface that you can do some port forwarding etc.
