Hi,
I would like upgrade from SQL Server 2000 Standard (SP2) to SQL Server 2000 Enterprise (SP4).

How do I it?

Thanks.

it should be quite easy, just run the setup, then upgrade the SPs.

Right guys?

Thanks, SP no problem,

the problem is of Standard to Enterprise...

how?

Thanks.

well do a backup.

then the setup should be able to do an upgrade.

- upgrade SQL standard to enterprise (run setup from CD, you get upgrade to
enterprise option)
- add /3GB swith to boot.ini and reboot for the swith to kick in
- enable AWE in SQL (only if you plan to set max SQL memory to more than
3GB)
- set max memory on SQL
- restart SQL services for changes to take effect

Backup all your databases (system and user).

Drop in the SQL 2000 Enterprise CD.
Run through the setup.

One of the options should be to upgrade the existing instance.

Then install SP2, then SP4.

Don't expect the SQL Server to be all that usable until you get SP2 installed.

ok.. ThaNKS...
another question:

Can I directly restore bases in another server with diferent version of SQL?

For example:

Source: SQL 2k Standar (Backup Bases)
Target: SQL 2k Enterprise (Restore Bases)

Work it??

Thanks.

Yes you can backup and restore from Standard to Enterprise as well as from Enterprise to Standard. Bascially you can backup and restore to any edition of SQL Server so long as the version stays the same.

In other words any SQL 2000 database server can be restored to any other SQL 2000 database server. Any SQL 2005 database server can be restored to any other SQL 2005 database server.

(MSDE and SQL Express size limitations are the only overwriting factor when it comes to this.)

Thanks, but don' work
For example, It don't work restore databasa "master" of SQL2KEnterpriseSP2 to SQL2KEnterpriseSP4, it say's that versions are differents.

With Bases of users it work, but with bases of system don't work, they have to have the same Service Pack and version.

yes?

thanks....

Restoring system databases is a little different. They need to be the correct patch level. Microsoft makes changes to the system databases between patch level.
