Newbie here.
PS Version 7

I managed to extract a foreground object into a layer. I want to save just this layer as a jpeg and I'm stuck. Advice appreciated.

PS: Later I'd like to add a background layer of a plain carpet like backgound and save the combined pic. I don't know how to do that either, but I'll settle for saving this layer as a jpeg for now. Thanks, Tom

So your image now has two layers? (1) the original with background and (2) just the foreground image? Do you need to keep the original background? If yes, duplicate the image and keep it for later. If no, just delete the layer with the BG and then use either 'save as' or 'save for web' (depending on the final resolution required for the JPG). If you want to add a new BG, open the BG image as well as the foreground image and drag the foreground image to the BG image (or copy/paste). Make sure resolutions of the two images are the same otherwise the source file's rez will be changed to match the target file's rez.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. I got that to work.

Now I tried to do the same thing with another image, but I forgot to delete the original image before I saved it.

I copied the image, extracted a foreground object and thought I was saving just the foreground, but I would up saving the background too.

When I went back into it, I didn't see the seperate layer where I had extracted the foreground. So it seems I have to extract it all over again.

Is that correct, or is the extracted layer in there somewhere and how do I find it?

Thanks,
Tom

Depends on how you did the extraction. Did you make a selection and convert to a workpath --> path? If so, then your work should still be there (check the Paths palette). If you didn't -- sorry. You're going to have to do it again.
