Hello,
I would like more informations on SAN Media Server (NB 5.1).
How does it work ?
Here is my current environment:
- HP EVA 8000 SAN Storage providing LUNs to Windows servers,
- VMWare ESX servers with vmotion also connected to the EVA 8000.
I'm currently backing up Windows servers and VM througt a Netbackup client installed on them.
In order to reduce network utilization, I would like to backup the SAN directly.
If we connect a Netbackup "client" machine (with SAN Media Server ?) into the EVA, is it able to access directly the LUNs in read only mode in order to perform LAN Free backups ?
If not, what does SAN Media Server exactly do ?
And how to do LAN Free backups with NetBackup ? (excluding the use of NDMP: EVA 8000 doesn't support it).
Thanks.
Olivier
