How repair Windows XP on a laptop which does have a cd rom or Floppy drive ?

I have a Sony vaio laptop ( 4 yrs old) which used to have a external cd rom drive connected. And no floppy drive.

The cdrom drive has stopped working from a year.

The laptop can connect to the network using its LAN(Eth) card.

Its giving some bootup errors now, saying cannot find system32/comed file or something.

How can I fix this without a cdrom/floppy drive ?

Any suggestions ??

Thanks

Well, you could get a USB floppy or optical drive - that's one option.

Another option you could try is to put a bootable copy of Windows onto a thumb/flash drive, and make sure you enable "boot from USB" or that USB hard drives, etc, is enabled in the system BIOS. Maybe then you can use the Windows repair options from there.

Or another option, I would think, would be to attempt to load the hard drive into another laptop, or to a desktop with an adapter, and attempt recovery/repair there.
