XP PRO. IE 6.0

Every time I boot and periodically, my dial-up window wants to check for windows messenger.

Zone Alarm tells me so.

I have nothing checked in the Windows Messenger Properties.

So why does it do it?

How can I remove Messenger?

Install Service Pack 1 for XP and go to...

Control Panel ->
Add/Remove Programs ->
Add/Remove Windows Components

And uncheck MS Messenger.

If you want to you can also just disable it in the group policy editor.

start, run : gpedit.msc

In the editor go to:
Computer Configuration/Administrative Templates/Windows Components/Windows Messenger

Enable these two:
‘Do not allow Windows Messenger to be run’
‘Do not automatically Start Windows Messenger initially’
