Hi
I wanted to chnage my hard drive so I copied my old hard drive via a software named Drive Copy which copied everything including windows XP to my new hard drive. The problem is that when I boot the PC freezes at the welcome screen. I think that it's because windows XP have a protection with the serial of the hard drive. How can I make XP only work on my new hard drive ? I have full legal license of Windows Xp. Thanks at advance.

Boot with the XP CD and do a repair reinstallation.

You will have to spend some time at Windows Update site after doing this.

Your machine does not stop with an activation issue; there are a series of warnings, and finally you end up able only to run the activation screen. But it does not stop at the Welcome screen.

You could try a "Dirty Install" which is installing XP over the top of your current XP. I don't think it is quite the same as a Repair but you will have to redownload your MS patches.

This was the method that I used when my registry was corrupted by a virus at work that modified my user passwords and was unable to log into the machine.

It retained most of my prior settings.
