How Outlook searches, starts with old emails first

Does anyone know much about how Outlook searches email messages? I have a customer that moved to a new exchange server last year. I took their existing PST files and imported them into their Exchange server mailbox.

Problem is that when a user searches say his Sent folder, it begins the search with the oldest emails first, which takes forever because of the amount of mail in there. Does anyone know if you can reindex the mail file or dow something that will search top down instead of bottom up?

Thanks everyone!

If you enable content indexing, it uses the indexfirst, then oldest to current items that have not yet been indexed.
