Once I have a system sync'd-up with the AMC, does it thereafter need AMC access for anything except future upgrades and/or license additions?

Thanks

No you don't
The only reason is licenses but then still then you do not need to have the mx connected, this can be done with a pc connected to the internet

You do this with a full install and everything except license unchecked

MIMB, ditto for what tlpeter said.

Additionally, if you have a teleworker server set up in server and gateway mode, I recommend you place the TW on the same internal network as the 3300 and use it as the local gateway. This design will allow the 3300 internet access without the security risks associated with exposing your Data LAN and also prevent 1-way audio issues common to TW routing issues.

OK, reason I ask....
I have a site we're migrating from MX to MXe. Plan is to move the licenses over & restore the DB on the new box. I'd like to do this not exactly in real time, rather get the new box all set to go (licenses released on AMC and re-registered, etc. at our leisure, with no interruption to the client, ie, let him continue running on the old MX until the maintenance window, then go in and swap boxes and more or less be out of there.

This will be our first MX to MXe upgrade so I thought I ask someone who's maybe done it a time or two before. (I didn't want to have him go down by virtue of us moving the licenses to get his new system ready). If I read you right, this won't be a problem. Thanks!!

MIMB, you should have no issues with this. I'm doing something similar (upgrading from multiple LX's to an MXe Server running MCD), and this is how we'll be doing it as well. We've already confirmed with the AMC support folks that this is the recommended way to do it.

The only time a 3300 communicates with the AMC is when you update the license, either via Software Installer or via the License & Options Selection form. Also, if you DO happen to re-synch after the licenses have been removed from that box's ARID, the existing programming will remain intact and you won't lose any users. This feature is there as a precaution for just such a situation.

Yup, Ditto again, been there done that, no issues.

There is a Migration document that should be followed when migrating from an MX to MXe as there are potential issues when restoring analog devices. Basically, All devices programmed on the internal AMB or AOB must be removed before the backup and restore process and then manually key punched on the MXe. Also, the MXe must have the same IP Address when doing the restore.

Stars to all!! Thanks for the warm-fuzzy feeling about doing this. First one's always a learning experience.

Did it lately like that
Just changed the hardware id and make sure the old mxe could not sync and configured the new mxe
