Hi all,

I have just installed new router to my network. I used command "show process cpu" and got the result of CPU load as 60 %. But I wonder whether it is overload ? By the way, can you tell me how much of CPU load is good, or how much is overload ?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Is it substained or just a burst to 60% and then back down?

Bursting is not a big deal.. I have a few routers that hit 90% for a brief amount of time.. not that I like it but it is livable.. substained is another problem.. it will start to impact the router. The first priority is to pass traffic.. even to the point of dropping route updates, telnet sessions and so on. I have had a couple of routers go into a "runwaway" mode where the only way to reset them was to pull the plug. Normally caused by not enough memory which also strains the CPU.
