Using a Cisco 3620 router as our ISDN connection for home users, I need a way (tool) to show me how many users that are connected, or have been connected, at the same time.
I have found some tools that can show me connection in 'real time', but in order to find out when we are close to the limit. I need the information/history in a repport, and if possible graphically (whish from management!!!!)

Thanks Thomas

Is there no unlimited isdn connections in your area ? Have you looked at cisco works 2000 ?

Our router at the office has a limit of 30 connections (that's the amount of serial interfaces...64000 bits/s). Each time a user logs on from home they will occupy one serial port. If 30 users are logged on at the same time, the 31'Th user will not be able to connect.
We are trying to find out, how many users that normally are logged on at the same time. That's why we are looking for a tool that can show us this.
I have tried Cisco works 2000 (thanks Jeter). It looks powerful, but I can only see the informations real-time. Is it possible to store the information?

I have found a solution which can show me the number of users connected at the same time. A little program called 'Router IP console' downloaded from This program shows me the traffic from each serial interface. The first user who logs on from home will use the first interface 'serial0/0:0', the next user will use 'serial0/0:1'. Every time a user are logged on, he will generate trafic to the interface. By looking at the traffic on the interfaces, I can see how many interfaces that has been used and thereby see how many users that has been logged on at the same time.
Tricky one...but it works.

You could use SolarWinds Networking Tools (SolarWinds.Net) if you know the IP addresses that are going to be used.
You need to configure the Network Monitor to monitor for IP address activity on all IP addresses that will come through the Router . (on the Eval copy of Solarwinds Professional Edition , you can only set up five addresses-officially!)Just leave the monitor running , you can use it for checking Real time if required. Then after a period of time check out the Events , then check Node up or Node down events without anything highlighted in the list and you can see Node Up and Node down times , from this you can work out who was on when ! I don't know if you can down load this info into a spreadsheet etc to make the working out easier - but if they don't and you ask SolarWinds to do it I'm sure they would consider it for their next Version.
