Hello -

We are currently exploring different databasing technologies. We need a solution that can manage between 1 - 10 million customer records managed on (1) desktop machine (2ghz+ Dell Desktop w/ plenty of RAM).

I have had good experiences in the past with filemaker, but I have heard varying things when designing a database of this scale. It is important for this database to be fast. Each field will have approx. 10 - 15 entries such as customer "born on date", name, email, phone, etc. Just your basic stuff. We will need, however, a database solution that will search between 1 - 10million of these records in a short amount of time when parsing by 1-5 of the aforementioned fields.

As such, what are your comments on using a filemaker developer for these sorts of things? If speed will be a problem, what workarounds are there? Or can you refer us to somebody that may be able to better suit our needs?

Thank you for your time and consideration.

The database size may be an issue, but the seek and find time will definately test your patience in FileMaker. Good as Filemaker is, look into MySQL for a database solution that will expand with your growth and lower your frustration levels.

Cheers.
