Hi might sound like a stupid question but in word does anyone know how many points are in a single line space.

Am setting up a template and want Heading one to have a Pts after amount that will be the same as pressing the return key twice.

Any help received with thanks,

Graham.

Use Stlyes!!!!! Word is designed for this.

A line space is defined by the style.

Bravo, by the way. One should never use the Enter key to make the space between paragraphs. That space should ALWAYS be part of the style.

So go into Styles.....uh, what version are you using? Use Help to find out how to get in and modify styles. You can modify the built-in Heading style, but...if you want some advice...make your own template and make your own styles to get precisely the format you want. This gives you absolute control out of the format of the documents produced by the template.

Providing of course that users actually use the styles properly....

hahahahahaha, pardon me while I double up in a fit of laughter.

There are 72 points to an inch.

The height of a line is a little more than the height of the font you are using (otherwise the characters of one line would touch those of the line above).

Line spacing is dependent on the font size you prefer, but we use a 12 point font with line spacing set "at least 12 pt". Also in this style, the setting for line spacing after is set to 12 pt.

Hi folks sorry for the delay in replying.

I am using styles to design the template what I want is for the user to pick say heading one (they will do this) and the points after section to be equal to pressing the return key twice. Should have included that in post sorry.

Cherrio thanks for the rule have forgotten it.

HDRules from what you've posted if I'm using 10Point font and want two lines after the heading or paragraph the points after in the style should be 20?

Thanks to all who replied.

Graham

Thanks Have worked it out. Thanks again HDRules star for you.

Just to point out that line spacing is a state of the orevious paragraph style font size.

Pressing the return key twice coming out of a style that is set with a font size of 48, is quite different than pressing the return key twice following a style paragraph set with a font size of 12.

In both cases, the return (Enter) key is pressed twice. So exactly the same. However, the actual space will be very very different.

Again, the actual spacing (before and after), and the line spacing itself are determined by the style and can be fine tuned quite precisely. So you could certainly have a style font at 12 pts, a space following at 14.7 pts, and a line spacing set at EXACTLY 15.3 pys.

It is all set up in the style, and you can make it whatever you want.

This is not correct. Line spacing can be set completely independently of font size. Although it is true that a font size may affect the look if you have a huge font size and very small line spacing.
