How is system name determined?

Hi,

How is system name determined by when I have multiple IP address in my Solaris System or Unix systems?
Is it the name which is displayed by "uname -n" command ?
Is the system name of an host with multiple IP addresses unique?

AFAIK it's the one in /etc/nodename
