you should be able to run at a maximum of around 85c, but the system will be very unstable. I would agree that you definately need more cooling though. My amd system is at 32c on average.
Definitely look into getting additional cooling. Typically, you don't want to try not to exceed 120-125°F (or 50-55°C). Of course, your CPU may be able to run stably up to 85°C, but you risk short term damage the higher you go that may shorten the life of your CPU drastically. ~cdogg

okay...cpu temperature, let's make it clear,
u have
1)cpu surface temperture
2)cpu on-die temperature
3)case temperature
4)some motherboards has even more
i think the 85C max is for on-die temperature....i m not sure, if a surface temperture raise up to 85C, that means about 110C on-die??? becareful with it anyway.
cdogg, run stabley up to 85C? "I don't think so" mid 60's max perhaps, but mid 50's is what you should be aiming at for peace of mind.
My Hot Palamino 2.1 max's at 53C (normally around 48C)
I know early "classic" Tbirds were hot but mid 60's is too hot.
Better heatsink/cooler and additional case fans should take it down in the mid 50's.

Thanks pap, I wasn't saying you could run stable at that high of a temp. I was responding to Craigey's post about being able to run at that temp. I was trying to emphasize that you shouldn't let it get above 55°C, if you can help it.
