I have been recently given Access 97 databases to manage (It is used as an exectuable) and have been wondering how hard it would be to convert this database into Oracle while still keeping the front end Access forms. Any one having any suggestions on how to do this or where I can look to see some of the issues that arise when doing this I would greatly appreciate the information.

Thank you

Joanne

If you never programmed in ORACLE you might need several months before your backend is working properly. ORACLE's learning curve is much steeper that ACCESS'.
I think that SQL server is a good alternative.
BTW: Why don't you stick with ACCESS?

When I came in to this company, we have several Access 97 databases that were starting to bog down due to number of users and size. I created Oracle tables that duplicated those in Access. After transferring the data from Access to Oracle, linking the tables to Access, repointing the forms, reports, queries, it was transparent. I guess it all depends on your knowledge of Oracle and the number of forms, reports, queries you have in your Access database. Terry M. Hoey

The company direction is towards a common link of databases, a larger "sister" company has oracle. The growth of the company is another element which may factor into this decision. I have Oracle programming experience but have been developing in VB for the past few years so I am sure, as I am finding now, with trying to develop in Access that I will have a lot more to brush up on for Oracle Development. I am thoroughly impressed by what people can do in Access .. too many applications with backends of Access only limits what you think Access can do as a front end. :)
