How well does the remote access card work? Can you do everything remotely that you can do onsite?

Works fine on R3 - R6, but R7 & R8 have issues with certain 308EC modules. Do some searching on the forum for more details. You can do more using the remote access, since DS1 can only be configured that way. Reading the documentation will give you most details needed. It's free from support.avaya.com

Using the remote access card to establish a session via dial-up can be an exercise in frustration. Some modems seem to have better luck than others (Lucent & the US Robotics Sportster seem to work better than others).

It got to the point where Avaya, starting with the R7 processor, provided a port to connect an external modem.

wow really? even worse than connecting to a merlin?

Hmm.....

I've never had any problems connecting to the Merlin Magix I installed at my church. It was impossible to establish a remote connection to the R6 Partner ACS I first installed there.

Now Merlin modems can go bad. So if you have problems connecting to a Legend or Magix that is served by true POTS lines and all settings are correct, then replacing the processor might be worth considering.

If memory serves me, you need to power-cycle the Partner ACS in order for any changes made via a computer session to take effect.

No, the way it works is, after the new translations are uploaded, the next command that is initiated is a system reset. It restarts the system with the new upload, and part of the process is dumping the modem connection. Since no calls can be in process during a reset.
