How does the blackberry turn the screen of when it is in the holster? 1

I am trying to find out what makes the BB turn the screen off when it is in the holster. Very puzzling.

The belt holster (or some of the flip cases) has a built-in magnetic sensor which interacts with the BlackBerry faceplate, sending a signal to turn off the screen.
