How does deferred packet affect the traffic on ethernet?

When I type sh int on Cisco 4000 I see alot of good statistics, I see that we have problem on our outside wan interface (ethernet)with many collisions,
but what does deferred packet stand for?

14835539 packets output, 3468834039 bytes, 0 underruns
0 output errors, 673362 collisions, 0 interface resets
0 babbles, 0 late collision, 329857 deferred
0 lost carrier, 0 no carrier
0 output buffer failures, 0 output buffers swapped out
