Hello all,

Just a quick question that seems kinda silly to me....

I am running Backup Exec 9.0 on my Windows 2000 server. I have 3 media sets created:

Daily - overwrite protection = 6 days
Weekly - overwrite protection = 3 weeks
Monthly - overwrite protection = 51 weeks

I have the daily backups running Monday - Thursday, the weekly backups running Fridays, and the monthly backups is customized to the last business day of the month.

What happens when the monthly job conflicts with either a daily or weekly backup (as it most indeed will)? How can I ensure that the monthly job has priority over the others, and that if the monthly job runs, the others don't try and fail?

If two jobs are scheduled to overlap, it will run the job whose time starts first. The second job will wait for the first one to finish. In BE 9.0, the waiting job will time out after a certain amount of time has passed. I'm not certain how long this period is. In my experience it's been a day or two.

One way to try making sure the monthly job runs first is to schedule it to run an an earlier time than the regular backups. That way on the days the backups happen to overlap, the monthly will start first.

I think and will need to check this that you can put in exception dates in teh schedule, so backup will not schedule a job on this day - check it out, it may have what you need.

I saw the Excption Dates in the Schedule section of the job, and I've added the dates. I will know for sure this weekend when my month-end job should run, instead of my weekly job.

Thanks for the help guys. I'll keep you posted.
