How do you work a modem from VBA?

I can connect to the modem and dial up another modem using the code....

Sub Comms()

UserForm1.MSComm1.CommPort = 4
UserForm1.MSComm1.Settings = "9600,N,8,1"
UserForm1.MSComm1.PortOpen = True
UserForm1.MSComm1.Output = "ATDT Numbertodial"

But whatever I put after this the modem hangs up almost immediately. Anybody got any suggestions what I am missing?
