How do you use Adobe InDesign?

I would like to better understand what businesses use InDesign for.
InDesign is a new technology for us, since our core market is somewhat different. Our flagship product, is a formatting engine that produces printable output (PDF, PostScript, AFP) from XML-based documents (data).
Since we are new to the InDesign ecosystem, I would like to know more about typical business uses for Adobe InDesign. I appreciate any replies that describe:
- how you use InDesign;
- for what business tasks you use InDesign;
- what problems and difficulties you experience while using InDesign;
- what you would like to be improved in InDesign;
- what tools you are missing in InDesign; as well as
- the names of people that will help us in improving our products that work with InDesign.
