How do you uninstall a program from the registry?

I have a program that does not work I was told to uninstall it from the registry. Does anyone know how to do that? It won't uninstall with the wizard! So if anyone knows could you please tell me where to find or how to do it? By the way does this completely get rid of it? Thanks!

I don't often venture into the registry, but I have had success with searching for a particular program and deleting the references regedit found to it.
I'd definitely make sure I had a backup of the registry before I did go in and start deleting things.
