I was just wondering what typical users do to promote a report from their test environment to their production environment? What I do is test the report, then save it off to my memory stick and then open it in Crystal Reports and then save to Enterprise. I was wondering if anyone out there uses the Import Wizard or some other method?

Thanks,
Bessebo

We use a mix of Import Manager, BIAR files and the APOS Object Manager depending on the content and where it is be created/tested.

We use a mix of Import Manager and an application that I wrote using the .NET SDK that will publish the same report to multiple folders, setting new database connections for each copy based on the clients that are selected (our clients all have the same set of reports, but each one connects to a different database.)

A computer only does what you actually told it to do - not what you thought you told it to do.

Interesting. MJRBIM, could you comment a little on APOS's Object Manager. Also, we are thinking of purchasing their Bursting Manager. I am wondering if you use that?

Thanks,
Bessebo

We like the APOS tools, and have used them since 8.5 - currently have the following for XI (R2):

InfoScheduler
Instance Manager
Object Manger
Report Package Booster

Looking to deploy the KPI tool later this year.

We looked at the Bursting Manager a while ago, but didn't have a pressing need for it at the time.

From the sounds of it, there will be some-kind of "bursting" for RPTs available in BOE-XI(Release 3) later this spring...so you may want to check that out before buying a 3rd party tool.

Thanks for that info. It is nice to see that BO might add that functionality to their application. What a concept...

Another company building tools is Zoom Software (
They have just released Instance Analyser v3.

I looks very good, all JAVA, can manage your Schedules and Instances like nothing I've seen before and on top of it, from version 3 it can be used to promote your objects from one CMS to another say Dev to Prod.
