How do you sort by date in Excel?

Hi there,

sounds like a simple question, but the answer is not apparent. How do you sort chronologically by date in Excel?

Are you REALLY referring to a DATE numerical type, because dates DO sort correctly, However dates that are formatted and stored as text may not. Skip,

Here's how you can tell if you have a real date.

Select the cell with date

Format/Cells/Number/General

If the date changes to a number like 37621, then its a date. Otherwise you just have a string of characters that look like a date. Skip,
