Mailservers are technically required RFC1123 5.2.17 to accept mail to domain literals for any of its IP addresses. Yet, MS Exchange 5.5 does not allow this without further configuration.

Not accepting mail via domain literal format (user@[0.0.0.0]). can make it more difficult to test mailservers, and can prevent you from receiving E-mail from people reporting problems with a mailserver.

How do you set up Exchange to accept email to its IP address?

Example:

postmaster@123.456.789.1
123.456.789.1 = yourdomain.com
