Happy New Year All! I service a Mitel SX2000 and VMX(Octel) VMail system at one of my 7 locations. Does anyone out there know how to change the number of rings before a call goes to voice mail? Currently it appears to forward to VMail at 5 rings. Is is possible to adjust or change the number rings to 3 rings for one station(extension)not the entire system?

you may be able to put one extension into its own class
of srvice if that is were the no answer timer is!

if you want the phone to have all the same COS options as the other phones but want to change just the number of rings go to form 3 or whatever your COS form is then COPY the COS options from whatever COS number the phone is currently in to a new COS number that is not in use. Then go to the new COS number and scroll down to option 253 (Call Foward - Don't Answer Timer) on the SX200 i dunno about 2000 and change the number of rings to 3.

The call forward timer in the SX2000 if found in the COS of the station. Unless you want to change the call forward no answer timer for the all stations with that COS, I would suggest building a new COS to assign to the station.

1. Find a COS that has not been assigned to stations or trunks. (Go to the Station Service Assignment form and Trunk Service Assignment form to find an Unused COS).

2. Go to the Class of Service (COS) Options Assignment form. Enter in the number to the COS that the station is currently (press Esc-1 to perform a Recall) and copy out (write out) all the COS options for that original COS. If you have a terminal emulation program that is capable of it, you can do a data capture while scolling through the options. Then you can open the captured file with notepad. I don't think there is a way to copy a COS in the SX2000 like the Sx200 or the 3300 ICP. If there is, hopefully someone could share with the rest of us! ha ha!

3 Stay in the same form (Class of Service Options Assignment) and press Esc-Q and you will be at the top of the form. Enter in the number of the COS that you want to create (press Esc-1 to do a Recall). Then enter in the same options as the original with the exception of the timer option "Call Forward No Answer Timer (0-125 sec)". This will help your station behave exactly as before except this timer. I go by the rule of about 3-4 seconds for every ring cycle. Don't forget to do an Esc-4 (commit) and a Esc-1 (Confirm) to save your data changes.

4. Go back to the Station Service Assignment form and change the COS of you station to the newly created COS. Do a Commit Confirm and test the station.

Something to be careful of. If you want to change the call forward no answer timer to a larger time, be sure that it is less than the No Answer Recall timer of any device that transfers calls to that station. If you don't, calls will get recalled back to the transfering device instead of forwarding to the call forward destination. You could also just change the the Recall timer in the other COS.

Good Luck.
