How do you make a CUT PATH around a picture? 1

Hi,

I just started up a printing business and I'm using a Roland SP-300V printer and I'm particularily specializing in t-shirts. My problem is getting a picture in Adobe Illustrator/Adobe Photoshop and making a "cut path" around the picture so that I can transfer it to Roland Versa Works. Can you just help me learn the steps to making a "cut path" around a picture?

You would need to use the pen (aka bezier) tool. Do not use the pencil tool to trace paths, it will leave you with gross inaccuracies all over the place.

The pen tool is a little daunting at first, but once you learn how to use it it's great. Combined with the "finger dance" the pen tool is going to be your most powerful weapon.

"Finger dance": Using the Ctrl, Alt and Shift keys, as well as the spacebar, with your left hand to access all the features of the pen tool.

Keep in mind, that the finger dance will provide different functions depending on whether you're clicking or dragging the pen tool.

What you want to do, is follow the outline carefully, dragging out curved paths or clicking straight ones depending on your needs. You can then edit the paths later to make a more exact fit, so you don't have to get it perfect the first try.


Experiment with this, and also read up on the pen tool in the help files.
