i have a 5621sw and want to load the VPNremote phone software on it, but cant seem too.

set up: ip office 4.1.9

i think i have the VPNremote phone software in the manager file?

i have done the "mute 47687" command and assigned the phone to group 876

i try to do the "mute 876663" command, but nothing happens?

what am i doing wrong?

thanks!

You will need an entry in you 46xx file that says if group =876 go to xxx

i am not sure how it is worded but it is something like that. avaya put out a sample 46xx file for shared server and it has the settings in it already. once you change the group you reboot and it should pull the VPN files.

will the 5621sw phone work with this? or does this have to be a 4621sw?

thanks for the link! great info!!

i still cant get the 5621sw to load the VPN software? as you can probably tell, im not much of a network guy yet. i guess you have to start somewhere.

has anyone got a 5610sw or 5621sw working on the VPNremote phone software?

thanks again for the link!!

I have 2 5610sw already deployed in the field, work great.

Do you have DHCP running to allocate an IP to the phone or have you set the IP's on the phone? Do you have TFTP up and running and not being blocked by any firewall?

The only problem with the .zip file (which is also included in the 4.1GA cd under "bin/vpnphone" folder) is that IF you have already upgraded your 5610 phones to the latest NON-VPN firmware (x10d01a2824.bin) then the 46xxvpn.scr will not allow the upgrade to the VPNRemote firmware. This is because the 46xxvpn.scr is looking for the older, pre-4.1 x10d01a2_3.bin to be on the 5610.

If this is your situation, you will need to edit the 46xxvpn.scr appropriately to allow the upgrade from the latest NON-VPN firmware to the VPNRemote firmware.

One way that has worked for us is to change the last line of the 46xxvpn.scr from:

GET 46xxsettings.txt

to:

GET 46vpnupgrade.scr

Of course, an official Avaya rewrite of the script would be the best scenario, but until then... I hope this is helpful.

i think you right.

but i dont know what file to edit? is it the 46vpnsetting_template file?

The file that needs to be edited is the 46xxvpn.scr file... If you are using notepad.exe to edit you can rename the file to 46xxvpn.scr.txt, make the edits, save and then rename back to 46xxvpn.scr.

this is what i get when i reboot the phone. should the phone reboot it self after the "mute 47687" command?

i really dont have a clue as to what im doing. if by chance and luck, could someone call me to tell me what the heck to do?

thanks again guys for all your help!

A good option is to use total commander
Then you can edit and look at it without renaming it

Here is the document for how to set up a VPN Remote phone

VPNRemote Phone Firmware Installation

The zip files contain firmware specific to the phones that are to be deployed. If there will
be a mixture of 46xx and 56xx phones with the VPN client installed, it will be necessary
to download the zip file entitled IPOffice_56xx_46xx_vpn.zip.
Please review the following two files for information on how to create a script that will
automatically apply the VPN settings to the phones, minimizing manual configuration
a. 46vpnsetting_readme.txt
b. 46vpnsetting_Template.txt
NOTE: For IP Office Deployments, the VPNRemote Firmware will not be supported on
the 4625 model IP Phone.
Installation Guidelines and Considerations
1. Using the Same File Server for Both VPN and Non VPN IP Phones
If sharing a File Server (TFTP/HTTP) with Non-VPNRemote phones link 46xxvpn.scr
file with the existing 46xxupgrade.scr by adding following lines at the beginning of the
existing 46xxupgrade.scr. (Alternatively backup the existing 46xxupgrade.scr file and
replace it with the file located in the Shared_Server_Script subdirectory.
IF $GROUP SEQ 876 GOTO DEFVPN
GOTO NOVPN
# DEFVPN
GET 46xxvpn.scr
# NOVPN
Now set the group of phones you want to install VPNRemote on, to 876 by pressing
following key sequence when phone is connected to the call server
MUTE 4 7 6 8 7 # 876# [MUTE GROUP# ID#]
[To modify the 46xxupgrade.scr file, first rename the file extension to .txt then open with
Notepad. It is possible to rename the file from 46xxupgrade.scr to 46xxupgrade.scr.txt or
to 46xxupgrade.txt. Either option will be accepted. Once the necessary changes have
been made, and saved, rename the file back to 46xxupgrade.scr]
1. Using a dedicated File Server for VPN IP Phones
If using a dedicated file server for installing VPNRemote firmware, Rename the
46xxvpn.scr file to 46xxupgrade.scr.
Note: Any IP Phone that uses this File Server for its firmware will have the VPN
Firmware installed on the phone.

To get it back to normal again just delete everything in the 46vpnupgrade.scr and copy all from 46upgrade.scr into the 46vpnupgrade.scr
I did try to rename the 46upgrade.scr to 46vpnupgrade.scr but it did not work
i check on any typo but i did'nt make any

Still busy with getting the normal firmware back on it

You must be sure that it can pull the 2_3 files !!!
Somehow it asks for it
It did pull the 2824 but after it was finished and rebooted it ask for the 2_3 files
It if does not get it, it will keep rebooting !!!
Also in the 46vpn.scr files it says you need to upgrade the phones to 2_3 !!!

So probably there is no normal way round but getting the phones on 2_3 first
