It doesn't matter how I come to this site - from email, or by search engine, or by typing its address - you know who I am as soon as I get there.

Please tell me how you do this because I want to be able to identify visitors to my site in the same manner. It's probably some simple trick and everyone will laugh about the question.

It all about cookies. Tek-Tips just write a cookie to your local machine which stores your username and password. Then when you try to open the tek-tips page, your cookie is sent along with the request. Tek-tips just examines the response to see if the cookie exists and if it does then it logs you in using the information found in the cookie. Mise Le Meas,

Mighty :)

WOW - thanks, guys

I hadn't finished reading the next thread when you came back with the answer. What a forum!
