How do you keep your Laptop users on current DAT?

We have over 800 laptop users that only connect via dialup. I have verified they have agent communication, as the last contact date changes on ePO. Last contact is genreally updated once every 6-7 days. However, user's DAT is not updated.

If I have the user perform a "update now" it will update them to current. What is going on? Would it seem that the user is not on-line enough for the ePO server to recognize that the client needs to be updated? How do I correct this without having to send a broadcast email telling everyone to "update now"? TIA

You can create an Agent Update task and set it to run on dialup. I personally have not tried this but would assume this would take care of your problem.

Can't you schedule an update from NAI site for users at home ?

Don't know if it's possible, just an idea :eek:p

yeah thanks, tried run on dialup task...dosent work 100% of the time. I have included NAIFTP in the sitelist.xml but I cannot verify that they are getting the current dat (ePO shows dat to be 5 weeks or older). These user NEVER connect via lan. Only dialup.

I have encountered the same problems as SlurpeeGuy in that setting them to update on dialup works *maybe* 50% of the time. I may try additionally creating tasks for dialup users to update when idle and/or at logon (as they authenticate to a domain) Also, dialup users frequently return LOCALHOST IP (127.0.0.1). Has anyone else seen this?

You didn't say what version of ePO you are on. With version 3.0.1, you can set it to pick an update site with the fastest ping response. I have a far lesser number of remote laptop users and I just list all the repositories, both on my network and at NAI. They are staying updated pretty well.

ePO 3.0.1. They have all 34 available sites in the sitelist.xml. One of them is the NAIftp. Im beggining to think that these user's do not stay connected for very long. (i am searching for hard evidance) I ran a test with a dialup connection and it took almost 20-30 minutes to recve dat update from NAI.

if you take the *.exe or *.zip, sure it do, because of the file size (5 or 3 Mb). On the first update, it take one of this file, but next one no

But normally, it's take the *.upd file wich is +- 100 Ko

It don't take 20 min to make an update from 150 Ko.

Engrish? [neutral] Can you explain how to setup a task so that 7.1 updates from .upd files via dialup?
