How do you identify whether you have USB 1.0 or 2.0 ?

Wanting to purchase a external (usb) cd burner. Most of the tech specs state that they support either USB 1.0 or USB 2.0. Can anyone tell me how to find out what is on my desktop and laptop ? Don't have any tech manuals for the d/top or l/top. Is there a utility(free) available that you can run to give us the info ???

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just a quick check would be -- is the laptop more than 3 months old? If so, it does not have USB 2.0. Newer that that is an outside possibility, but they're really just now starting to hit the market.

As an aside, you can purchase a PCMCIA card that will give you a couple USB 2.0 ports, compatible with any laptop (within reason).

Good luck...
