How do you get existing PDF files to print to smaller files?

I am trying to get some PDF files that are around 3MB to 6MB in size to print so that they are smaller file sizes such as 200 kb etc. If I print out the entire PDF and then go to the copier and e-mail the pages to my email address this will work, but I sure would like to find a better process. I have downloaded freeware compression programs but they don't reduce the file size. I tried printing the pdf to pdf but it's not changing the file size that way either. When I look at the properties of the pdf, the size audit, most of the time 95 percent of the file is images. Is there a way to print to pdf so it can sample the images some other way to really decrease the file size? I have a pdf document thats 133 pages - I could print all those and then email the file to myself but that's sort of wasting paper. Any tips will be appreciated! Thanks!

This worked for me, compressing files that were hundreds of GB: In Acrobat Professional, Save as JPEG2000 files (.jpf), which produces one JPF for each page in the file. Then Create a new PDF out of the JPF's.
I got a size reduction of 4 to 10 times, depending on the content. If there is OCR-able text, do an OCR on the file, and it will decrease by another 10% or so.
Not sure if the same effect will work on your smaller files - mine were a mix of scanned files - large format engineering drawings, and the contracts and specifications that went with them.
If you are working with drawings, you may have to rotate the images so that they're tall rather than wide. After the conversion is complete, you can rotate them back. The 'Save As JPF' didn't like wide images (like 6 and 8 feet wide!)
