How do you get a search menu to act like a drop-down list?

In a drop-down list a user can type a letter in the field and the first instance will pop into the field and typing the same letter will bring in the next instance. For example if I have a list of

Customer
Store
Spouse
Other

If I type "s' Store will display in the field.

Is there any way a search menu attached to a field can act similarly?
