I have a Maxtor MaxAttach 4300 that does not like the SMS 2003 client. Whenever the machine is turned on the client gets installed automatically and the Windows 2000 server software on the Maxtor corrupts. How do I block this machine from getting the SMS client installed?

Hi Mike,
one way would be (like in SMS 2.0) to create an empty file in the directory so that SMS 2003 cannot install because it cannot create the directory because of the file ;)

If you want to give this a try creta a file called "CCM" in the system32-directory of the machine which you do not want to hold the advanced-client.

Cheers,
Chris

also in sms 2.0 From the SMS server that manages the site boundaries of your servers, navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SMS\Components\SMS_DISCOVERY_DATA_MANAGER\ExcludeServers

Add the names of the systems to exclude. The DDM will recognize these systems as excluded and skip them.

BUT I dont know if this is in 2003. might be worth a look.

(let me know if its there if you get a chance)

actually this is in the smscpdg.pdf from MS it state you can exclude clients by the following REG_MULTI_SZ registry value on the sms site server.

enter each client name you want to exclude on a separate line.

HKLM\Software\SMS\Components\SMS_DATA_DISCOVERY_DATA_MANAGER\ExcludeServers
