How do you take an existing Microsoft xcel document and convert the file for use as a Microsoft Access database file?

You don't neccessarily have to 'convert' - just do a FILE/ GET EXTERNAL DATA/IMPORT and navigate to where your excel file is stored. Change the "File of TYPE" combo at the bottom of the Import dialog to "Microsoft Excel(*.xls)" and go for it...
