I have a win98 laptop. P-N-P keeps putting the PCMCIA dual modem/lan card on com 5. I need to change this to com 1,2,3,or 4. I know for sure that com 1 is not being used. How do I go about changing the com port from 5 to 1.
Thanks for any responses,
The easiest way would be to disable your internal com ports..the serial and infrared....install your pc-card...and then re-enable, if you choose, your other ports.
PnP wants to prevent resource sharing on the ports. Since you probably have Com1 and Com2 configured using the typical resources (3F8 - 4) & (2F8 - 3) Windows will put your device on Com5 because it knows that either Com3 or Com4 will result in resource sharing with Com1 and Com2.
Hope it helps.
