How do you allocate space for a partition with XP Home Edititon?

I've encountered a problem when trying to create partitions with XP home.
I don't know how to allocate space for a partition.
Can someone please help? :S

I had a partition created by Ranish but it was only 4Mg.
so I tried to install <I>XOSL</I> on that partition, and every time I tried it said that COM 4 was inaccessable.
How do I sort that out?

Can you please explain more clearly what you situation is (and where you want to go)? You need to know exactly wjhat you're doing to use Ranish - it may be free and powerful but its not user friendly. Did you partition disk before installing XP home? Or have you installed XP home and now trying to partition? You really need somethying like Partition Magic if you've already created partition taking up whole disk for XP home & you now want to split that (have a look on something like Kazaa fro PM if you haven't got/can't afford). Other option is create partition for XP not taking up whole drive during install.

I got thhis computer with XP home alredy installed, and now I want to partition my HD because I want to install Another Operating system e.g. Linux because I have'nt used that one yet, or Win 98

I've tried to use the help in the management console and all it say's is that I should select unallocated space for the partition, but that is what I don't know what to do.

Wolluf is right - the best way to do this is to use Partition MAgic Version 7

If XP already installed, its probably using all space on disk - so there probably isn't unallocated space. As I said in previous - Ranish is not that easy to use - unless you're an expert, you need Partition Magic to do what you want.
