Sorry, I know it's a simple question, but it seems to be an industry secret. How do I add a new telephone to the system?

Find an unused TN and DN.

LD 20
Req: new
Type: 2006, 2008, etc.
TN: Enter the TN (i.e. 4 0 0 1)
DES: reference number? (I've tried different things, like "1")
Cust: 0
Then "enter" through until it spits out the "Mem avail" and list of six or so other things.

Then when I check the board, I get nothing...

I can move numbers from one punch-down to another on the board, enabling and disabling a phone, etc. This looks like it should be easy, but something is eluding me. Can you help?

that phone would work if you add the keys, at the key prompt add scr xxxx for a phone number at least. here is a typ 2008, with hunt (busy treatment) and fdn (no answer treatment) the class marks ending in a usually need to be added.. fastest way, instead of new cpy 1, then add a new dn..

oyntol get the info like TN and DN and just copy from a phone that you want it to look and act like.

REQ CPY 1
TYPE xxxx
CFTN xx xx Copy from TN
TN New TN
DN New DN

then enter tough till Mem avail

then prt
the TNB of the new set and look to see if you need to change the 2nd DN or anything else.

So I tried and tried to no avail. Finally I tried a different TN and viola! No problem. I copied from one to the other on the first try. There is obviously a problem with that TN. Probably something I did. Anyway to check it?

Some TN's are reserved for specific uses. Some are for analog lines, etc.. I once did a lot of "wiring checking" before I realized a phone was dead because it had been set up using a voice mail TN.

Optivity is worth getting if you're new to this (like me), because you can tell it to download the PBX settings and the reserved TN's, and then it marks them for you under "Description." So it's easy to avoid them as you build a set.

I agree that creating a phone directly in any switch seems to be an industry secret. I considered going to "MAC on PBX" class at Global Knowledge a while back, and then realized, it wouldn't tell me about phone feature configurations, which is what I really need. Not that it wouldn't be otherwise useful.

that will give you any programing you may have left on it. read McGruff's post at least three times, and in the future you may decide to have it tatooed to your forehead. it's that important.

The system won't alow you to copy an ACD set, I know I tried it.

that's an improvement, wonder how long that's been a fact?

Thank you all for your help. The new phone is working great, but I hate to stop there. There is always something more to learn!

John,

I Did the PRT, TNB on 4 1 and it gave me an error SCH0805, which reads Specified TN is invalid. *shrug* I guess that is because I did an "out" on it when I was done configuring the new one yesterday?

do a stat 4, (ld 20) that will show your card type. might have not let you use it if it's not a digital port. and yes that is the right sch given if you try to prt a tn with no set programed

you did a copy from one phone to a new TN and then you outed the old phone????

i think he tried to build a set on the 1st tn but didn't add keys, then when he did the copy, he couldn't use the original tn he was attempting to use. i suggested he stat that card, to make sure he didn't get a corrupt tn. i had one the other day, putting in a new phone 16 non acd. during the last few prompts my pc locked up. after a reboot, i couldn't do a change or out the tn, i tried a new, that worked but when i got to key 0 scr xxxx, the switch told me that the dn was marped on the same tn that i was doing a new on, scary. i answered marp yes and finished the set. that night at midnight, i ini'ed my 81. 1st time in over a year, during the upgrade.. haven't had any porblems since but every now and then the grey box will scare an old man
