How do we issue credit card refund on Micros 3700? I tried to method where we press VOID, then the AMOUNT, then the NON-REV key, then swipe the card as usual, but I am getting an error message something like "not allowed with line item detail." This void/non-rev method used to work, but now all of the sudden, I am getting this new error. Seems like our POS has a mind of it's own and changes it whenever it wants.

sounds like you are selecting a line item, void and non-rev svc want you to select an amount not an item...............will work wonderfully GL

Okay, I have the same question.
I'm not sure I follow the method mentioned here. What screen do you press Void to start with?
Also, I don't see a Non-Rev button anywhere, I know how to create buttons, but I don't even see that button or option in the help manual. I tried creating a new option under Sales/Service Charges
I then tried using that button, but the charge ended up being a positive charge, not a refund. I tried entering the amount as -1.00 as well as (1.00) and both ended up being an actual charge instead of a refund.

I'm missing something here...

I looked at ours. We have a button on the manager screen that is linked to a macro. the macro just has Function number, and void as the function, then Service charge number with -cc credit as the service charge.

Wow, none of that seems to match the options we have available. I'm trying to link this to a button, and I can choose macro as the category, but then the macro list has a bunch of change to seat, filter seat, and then a few options at the end, nothing about a function number, void, or anything like that.

I can try creating another macro for this, and I do see one of the macros in the list (Void Declared Tip) mapped to a Function of Void. I will try to play with this a bit and see what happens.

Not sure why this is such a process.

There should be a non revenue generating service charge in your system for this. Go to the Service Charge setup screen in the configurator and click on the Service Charge tab. Scroll though all the entries and look for one with the Non-Revenue option checked. If you don't have one your dealer needs head to Columbia, MD for a refresher course.

Here's how to add one if needed. You'll have to get it into tracking though, otherwise your reports won't balance.

Service Charges setup
General tab
Name - whatever, i call mine CC Rering
Print class - same as your other service charges
Menu Level - all levels
Privilege - something high so the staff can't use it w/o a mgr auth
SLU - I just set this the same as my gratuities. It's not used often enough to warrant a permanent key
Options tab
Check Amount and Reference required
Service Charge tab
Select Non-Revenue

When you want to use it just sign in, go to your service charges and press Void, Amount, CC Rering. Enter whatever reference info you want at the prompt and hit enter. Don't start a check or try to add this to an existing check, it won't work.

This creates a negative check for the amount you entered. Pay it with the card you want to credit and you're done.

The non-rev svc is just a way to create a check with a value that doesn't post to sales or service charges. They're often used for deposits and gift card sales since the actual sale happens when these items are redeemed. They're fast transaction only, can't be added to a check with other items and can't be partial tendered.

Awesome! Thanks pmegan, we did have a button for this, but I didn't know the procedure, so thanks so much for that!
